Dear friends of Holy Trinity Chico –

I’m so grateful to be doing community with all of you! As we discussed this last Sunday, the Church is God’s covenant community where we have the honor of doing life together, helping each other to live by faith, grow in grace and walk in love. What a joy to have a family of brothers and sisters to “do life” with. If you missed last Sunday’s service, or want to listen again to it, the recording is located here. You can access the message notes and slides here.

In my talk, I quoted Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s book, Life Together, a Christian spiritual classic. A very short summary can be found here if you are interested. Longer summaries are available on YouTube. I suggest you get the book and read it! At 120 pages, it is a quick read, yet profound. A wonderful documentary of Bonhoeffer’s life is found here.

It is a beautifully told and moving account of this twentieth century saint who stood up to Hitler.

Next Thursday is Ascension Day! So, this Sunday we will consider together what Jesus did between his Ascension and Pentecost. While the Bible doesn’t give us a lot of data about this period of time in our Lord’s ministry, what it does share is both intriguing and encouraging. Our text is Acts 1:6-11, if you would like to read it ahead of time.

This Sunday, we will meet online at the usual time: 4pm via Zoom. To join the meeting, click here or on our website. As always, it’s best to check into the Zoom chat room a little early to make any necessary technical adjustments: we will have the meeting room ready by 3:50pm.

Our midweek community group meeting has been changed from Thursday nights to Tuesday nights. Here is the Zoom link. The time is 7-8ish p.m. We’d love to have you join us!

Remember this Sunday to bring your bible, bread and wine/grape juice for Holy Communion.

In Christ’s love –

Tom
