Dear friends of Holy Trinity Chico –

Greetings in the name of Jesus, who is our ascended Lord, high priest and eternal king! Remember that this Thursday is Ascension Day, when He returned to the Father to be crowned king and invested as priest. Take some time this Thursday to get alone and worship Him, in your own way, for making it possible for us to live forever with Him and the Father. If you missed last Sunday’s service, or want to listen again to it, the recording is located here. You can access the message notes and slides here.

In my talk, I referred to the doctrine of Christ’s “Harrowing (despoiling, robbing) of Hell”, the idea that Jesus, after descending to the place of the dead, broke down the gates of death in Sheol/Hades and rescued Adam, Eve, Abraham, Moses and all the other saints who were waiting for Him to release them. Then, when he ascended into heaven several weeks after his resurrection, He took these Old Testament believers with Him to the side of the Father. If you want to read a short, informative blog about this by bible scholar Matt Emerson, check it out here. It’s well written, biblically sound and really encouraging.

This Sunday, we will discuss the third of Henri Nouwen’s three relational spheres: ministry. As we will see, we have the unspeakable privilege of sharing our lives and the good news of hope with those around us. We’ll talk on Sunday about a simple summary of the message God has given us as well as an easy, convenient way to share it. We will meet online at the usual time: 4pm via Zoom. To join the meeting, click here or on our website. As always, it’s best to check into the Zoom chat room a little early to make any necessary technical adjustments: we will have the meeting room ready by 3:50pm.

Our midweek community group tonight, and I hop you can join us! Here is the Zoom link.  The time is 7-8ish p.m.

Remember this Sunday to bring your bible, bread and wine/grape juice for Holy Communion.

In Christ’s ascension love –

Tom
