Dear friends of Holy Trinity Chico –
I hope you are well and encouraged in Christ this seventeenth week of Trinity.
Last Sunday, we considered the topic of the biblical covenants in the first part of a two-part series. We examined ten common features of ancient near east covenants and noted how many of these are found in scripture, some in connection with the New Covenant, of which God has made us a part in Christ. If you missed the service, you can watch it here.
This Sunday, we will conclude this series by looking closely at the three principal covenants in the history of salvation: the Abrahamic, Mosaic and New Covenants. God’s teaching on this subject is immensely reassuring. Knowing that the Lord has bound himself to us in love through an unbreakable covenant enables us to rest in Christ, knowing that—as our eternal covenant partner—he will never fail or prove unfaithful. For those unable to attend in person, be sure to tune in to our livestream at 9am Sunday morning.
As you’ve noticed, we have started our renovation work on the church. We have a number of projects planned, both in the building and outside on the grounds. If you are interested in being a part of one or more of these, will you please let Tom know of your interest and availability? You can simply respond to this newsletter or talk to Tom on Sunday. We want the church to be a sacred space that expresses the beauty, peace and glory of the great God we know and love.
Can you set aside an hour this week to pray for Christ’s Church, our nation, state and city? There is a group of us who have been meeting for two years on Fridays from 12-1pm at the church building. We have been asking the Lord to bring repentance and new life to his people, to expose evil, frustrate the plans of bad actors and restore righteousness, integrity and love in our land. We have seen so many concrete answers to prayer. With the midterm elections upon us, the need for prayer is greater than ever. Please consider joining us this week and as often as you can make it. “The effective prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much” (James 5:16b).
If you are looking for a small group bible study, I invite you to join us on Tuesday nights from 7-8 pm for sharing, prayer and a study of the Letter of James. We meet in the sanctuary at the church and would love to have you be a part. You can also attend via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81655475348
