Dear friends of Holy Trinity Chico –

Blessings to you this eighteenth week of the Trinity season!

Last Sunday, we concluded our two-part series on biblical covenants by looking closely at the three principal covenants in the salvation history: the Abrahamic, Mosaic and New Covenants. We learned that Jesus has fulfilled the Abrahamic and Mosaic covenants and represents us before the Father as mediator of the New Covenant. Because he is unfailingly faithful, we can be assured that his salvation is secure and final. If you missed the service, you can watch it here: Please be aware we had some technical problems last Sunday, so the recording is messed up in some parts.

This Sunday, the message is entitled “A meditation on the midterms.” In it, I will talk about the strategic importance of the November 8th election, the challenges we have facing us and the opportunities we have to help change the course of our nation. For those unable to attend in person, be sure to tune in to our livestream at 9am Sunday morning or watch the recording during the following week here.

This Sunday is the final Sunday of our efforts to collect clothes for school kids here in our community. Simply bring your new or gently used clothes to church this Sunday and deposit them in the storage bins in the lobby. Anders Lundberg will then take them to Neal Dow for distribution.

If you are looking for a small group bible study, I invite you to join us on Tuesday nights from 7-8 pm for sharing, prayer and a study of the Letter of James. We meet in the sanctuary at the church and would love to have you be a part. You can also attend via Zoom at

Here are a few upcoming dates for you to get on your calendar.

  • Oct 28 – CareNet annual banquet
  • Nov 18 – YWAM annual banquet
  • Dec 24 – Our Christmas eve/Christmas service (Note: No service on Dec 25th)

As you’ve noticed, we have started our renovation work on the church. We have a number of projects planned, both in the building and outside on the grounds. If you are interested in being a part of one or more of these, will you please let Tom know of your interest and availability? You can simply respond to this newsletter or talk to Tom on Sunday. We want the church to be a sacred space that expresses the beauty, peace and glory of the great God we know and love.

Can you set aside an hour this week to pray for Christ’s Church, our nation, state and city? There is a group of us who have been meeting for two years on Fridays from 12-1pm at the church building. We have been asking the Lord to bring repentance and new life to his people, to expose evil, frustrate the plans of bad actors and restore righteousness, integrity and love in our land. We have seen so many concrete answers to prayer. With the midterm elections upon us, the need for prayer is greater than ever. Please consider joining us this week and as often as you can make it. “The effective prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much” (James 5:16b).

Thanks so much for your continued prayers for those in our body who face health issues, losses, financial difficulties and other challenges. Please be in prayer particularly for James Johnson (cancer), Tom and Connie Vervoorn (major house fire), Danielle Penne (upcoming surgery), the Jarvis family (moving across country), Emmett and Pat Jarvis (Louis’ dad [stage 4 cancer] and mom [dementia]), Phil Larios (medical issue), Kaylinn Hignell (cancer), Lavina Connor (John’s mother on hospice care), Nola Taylor (hospice care), Barb Trimmer (medical issues). Please continue to pray for an end to the bloodshed in Ukraine and for God’s will to be done in the upcoming midterm elections. Thank you!

Under the mercy –
