Dear friends of Holy Trinity Chico –

I hope you are well and experiencing the joy of the Lord during this twenty-third week of the Trinity Season. What a gracious, kind God we serve!

Before I go any further, I want to sincerely apologize for not getting the newletter out last week! I’m including in this newsletter the information from last week together with the links for this Sunday’s service and Friendsgiving celebration. Again, I’m sorry for the inconvenience and confusion last week’s mixup caused.

It’s not too late to sign up online to bring a side dish, dessert or drinks to our Friendsgiving celebration at the church this Sunday, Nov 20 at 5pm! We will have main items catered—turkey, potatos and dressing—which we will supplement with our own contributions. Please join us! Sign up here:

Last Sunday, we walked through Romans 6:1-23. This passage focuses on a person’s relationship to sin. We learned that, for those “in Adam”, sin exerts a powerful control over their attitudes, words and behavoir. But for those “in Christ”, that controlling influence is counteracted by a greater power: the power of God’s Spirit combined with the power of a renewed human spirit, enabling Christians to say “no” to sin and live righteous lives. If you missed the service, you can watch it here.

This Sunday, we will wrap up the Trinity Season with Christ the King Sunday. We will consider five important truths about the kingship of the Lord Jesus, examining both his current reign in heaven and on earth through his people as well as his coming, universal reign over a renewed creation. If you are unable to attend the service in person, be sure to tune in to our livestream at 9am Sunday morning or watch the recording during the following week here:

If you are looking for a small group bible study, I invite you to join us on Tuesday nights from 7-8 pm for sharing, prayer and bible study. We meet in the sanctuary at the church and would love to have you be a part. You can also attend via Zoom at

Can you set aside an hour this week to pray for Christ’s Church, our nation, state and city? There is a group of us who have been meeting for two years on Fridays from 12-1pm at the church building. We have been asking the Lord to bring repentance and new life to his people, to expose evil, frustrate the plans of bad actors and restore righteousness, integrity and love in our land. We have seen so many concrete answers to prayer. Please consider joining us this week and as often as you can make it. “The effective prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much” (James 5:16b).

Thanks so much for your continued prayers for those in our body who face health issues, losses, financial difficulties and other challenges. Please be in prayer particularly for James Johnson (cancer), Tom and Connie Vervoorn (medical issue, major house fire), Danielle Penne (upcoming surgery), Emmett and Pat Jarvis (Louis’ dad [stage 4 cancer] and mom [dementia]), Ron Reid (medical issue), Phil Larios (medical issue), Kaylinn Hignell (cancer), Nola Taylor (hospice care), Barb Trimmer (medical issues). Also, please continue to pray as the midterm election results are finally tabulated and for an end to the bloodshed in Ukraine. Thank you!

In the love of the Father, the grace of the Son and the fellowship of the Spirit –
