Dear friends of Holy Trinity Chico –

On Monday afternoon, a dear brother in Christ and “man after God’s own heart,” Don Rogers, was called home to be with Jesus and the Father after a long bout with complications due to West Nile virus. Don was dad to Ryan and Don, Jr. and will be deeply missed by us who knew him. “Pop” loved the Lord and was one of the boldest witnesses for Christ that I knew. If you would like to provide a meal to Ryan, Rosie and the family, please let us know. We will organize a meal train online to begin after Thanksgiving.

Last Sunday, we looked at four biblical teachings about the end times that Christians profess around the world, regardless of denomination: Christians must overcome tribulation and persecution during the present; Jesus will come again in power and great glory; Jesus will resurrect the dead and judge the world in righteousness, and Jesus will reign over a “new heaven and earth.” As we consider these things, our response should be to pursue holiness, remain expectant and be prepared for him to come at any time. If you missed the message, you can check out the sermon outline and slides here and the recording here.

This Sunday begins the Church year all over again as we observe the first Sunday of Advent in preparation of celebrating Christ’s birth into the world! It will kick off of a joyous season of reflection on the Father’s extravagant gift of his Son to us. If you are unable to attend the service in person, please tune in at 9am using this Zoom link:

The passcode is: 0404. We will also record the service, so you can watch the recording after it is posted the following week.

If you are interested in helping in some way with our upcoming Christmas Eve service (4pm on Friday, December 24), please contact Tamie Beach. She is coordinating this special family centered celebration of the Nativity with creative worship, music and the Christmas story, ending with a candlelight singing of “Silent Night.”

If you have any clothing you would like to provide for low-income students at Neal Dow Elementary School, please bring it with you this Sunday, Nov 28. There will be storage containers in the church lobby. Size information and other details can be found here.

If you are interested in adult baptism or child dedication, please connect with Tom via email or in person at one of our services.

If you are looking for a bible study where you can connect relationally and grow spiritually, we’d love to have you join us on Tuesday nights from 7-8pm at the church building. We pray, fellowship and study John’s Gospel. This week, we are studying John 17. We also have Zoom setup for those unable to meet in person. Please use the following link:

Danielle Penne will be starting another seven-week women’s bible study in January. More details to follow.

We also have a prayer group that meets on Fridays at noon to pray for our nation, state, city and church and would love for you to join us! We are asking the Lord to expose evil, frustrate the plans of bad actors, raise up his church is strong, vocal faith and restore righteousness, integrity and love in our land. Join us at the church building from 12-1pm. All are welcome.

Thanks so much for your continued prayers for those in our body who face health issues, losses, financial difficulties and other challenges. Please be in prayer particularly for Danielle Penne (healing for her leg, family losses), Craig and Sharon Anderson (illness), the Rogers’ family (Don Sr.’s homegoing), Keri Oliva (cancer), Laine Dahlberg (premature baby), Nola Taylor (hospice care), Barbara Trimmer (medical issues), James Johnson (cancer).

Looking to Christ’s glorious return –

P.S. We didn’t get last week’s newsletter to you as planned last week, so this week you are getting two newsletters!
