Dear friends of Holy Trinity Chico –

Lenten blessings to you as we draw near to the Lord during this period of reflection prior to the events of Holy Week.

Tonight is our Ash Wednesday service, when we kick off our 40 day observance of Lent. We will have a very brief family service with worship and the application of ashes, starting at 5:30pm. Immediately following will be a simple meal together. We should be out the door by 7pm or earlier. You can sign up on the clipboard Sunday to bring a food item. You can download an informative flyer on Lent here.

Men, please mark your calendar for next Monday, March 7, at 6:30. We’ll view a remarkable true story about Dave Eubank and his family which is guaranteed to inspire you. Dave is a missionary and ex special forces operator who ministers in Burma and Iraq. Also, we will meet on March 16 at 6:30 for fellowship and support. Both activities are at the church building.

Last Sunday, we wrapped up our study of 2 Thessalonians by looking at 2 Thess 3:6-18, where Paul deals with the problem of certain believers in the church sponging off others. In the message we touched on the broader issues of church discipline and the current crisis of homelessness in America. If you missed the service, you can view the recording here.

This week is our first in a series of Lenten reflections on the person, words and works of Jesus. This Sunday looks at Matt 11:28-30 and will be accompanied by an explanation of Lent and the Christian calendar. For those unable to attend in person, be sure to tune in to our livestream at 9am Sunday morning at the following YouTube link https://youtu.be/qFLGnQP8wn0 We will also record the service, so you can watch the recording after it is posted next week.

If you are looking for a bible study where you can connect relationally and grow spiritually, we’d love to have you join us on Tuesday nights as we study the book of Romans. We meet 7-8pm at the church building for prayer, fellowship and bible study. We also have Zoom setup for those unable to meet in person. Women, Danielle Penne has just started another seven-week study using the video series by Priscilla Shirer. This one is on the prophet Elijah and begins next Monday, Feb 28th. The group meets from 6:30-8pm for fellowship/lesson. Sign up Sunday or email Danielle. The other weeks are: March 7, 21 and 28 and April 4, 11 and 18. Beginning on April 25, Danielle will lead another 7-week video group on ”Discerning the Voice of God.” Let her know if you want to come!

Has God been prompting you to pray more for our nation, state, city and His church? If so, come join us each Friday at the church building from 12-1pm. We are asking the Lord to expose evil, frustrate the plans of bad actors, raise up his church is strong, vocal faith and restore righteousness, integrity and love in our land.

Thanks so much for your continued prayers for those in our body who face health issues, losses, financial difficulties and other challenges. One of the great privileges we have is to hold each other up in prayer. Please be in prayer particularly for David Calkins (healing of foot), James Johnson (cancer), Keri Oliva (cancer), Kaylinn Hignell (cancer), Larry Ruby (loss), Mark Spelts (healing), Nola Taylor (hospice care), Jason, Carrie and Lily Kruger (loss of Carrie’s grandfather), Phil Larios (medical issues) and Barbara Trimmer (medical issues). Please pray also for an end to the bloodshed in Ukraine. Thank you!

In Lenten joy –

Tom
