Dear friends of Holy Trinity Chico –

The Lord be with you during this wonderful season of Pentecost, when we celebrate God’s redemption of his entire creation through the outpouring of his re-creative Spirit. Not all of creation is refashioned yet, of course. That won’t occur until sometime after Jesus returns to the earth as its rightful king. But we Christians have the first-fruits of the re-creative Spirit poured into us, so that we can bear the fruit of God’s eternal kingdom. Our liturgical color for this season is green: the color of growth and new life.

Last Sunday—Trinity Sunday—Sharon taught us from the letter of James about how to finish our lives well. The Lord spoke to many of us about adjustments we need to make in order to be the kind of person we want to be: more in love with Jesus, more empowered for his kingdom and more committed to his Cause. If you missed the service, you can view the recording here.

This Sunday, please be sure to bring your bibles (ESV, if you have one) because we will begin a short series of reverent explorations of what might be the most astonishing chapter of the bible: Romans 8. More than perhaps any other biblical text, it teaches us about the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. I will be using more of a dialogical teaching format rather than a sermonic one, so study Romans 8:1-13 ahead of time and come with your questions and observations. For those unable to attend in person, be sure to tune in to our livestream at 9am Sunday morning at the following YouTube link  As you know, we will also record the service, so you can watch the recording after it is posted next week.

Also, this Sunday, please bring your baby bottle/s filled with loose change, cash and checks in support of Care Net, the crisis pregnancy center we are supporting. If you didn’t pick up a bottle, no problem: we have plenty still available. Just bring your money with you this Sunday. The bottles won’t be collected until next week. It’s a creative way to contribute to a very worthy cause!

Coming up next Wednesday, June 22, is the California March for Life in Sacramento.  Several of us are going down, and if you would like to go, please contact Danielle Penne, who is coordinating rides. Flyers are available in the lobby this Sunday. You may be aware that there are powerful influencers in our state wanting to make California the “destination abortion spot” for the whole country, actually paying women to come here to murder their babies. A recent piece of legislation, AB2223, would even allow the killing of unwanted babies delivered after a botched abortion. This bill has passed the House and is soon to go to the Senate. If we don’t speak up for the unborn, who will?

Men, plan to join us a week from this Wednesday night, June 8, from 6:30-8 pm at the church building for our last men’s gathering before taking a summer break. Larry Ruby will be sharing with us.

Has God been prompting you to pray more for our nation, state, city and His church? If so, come join us each Friday at the church building from 12-1pm. We are asking the Lord to expose evil, frustrate the plans of bad actors, raise up his church is strong, vocal faith and restore righteousness, integrity and love in our land.

Thanks so much for your continued prayers for those in our body who face health issues, losses, financial difficulties and other challenges. One of the great privileges we have is to hold each other up in prayer. Please be in prayer particularly for Danielle Penne (constant pain and upcoming surgery), Lynne Waite (severe back pain), Gena Penne (stroke), Emmett and Pat Jarvis (Louis’ dad [stage 4 cancer] and mom [dementia]), Phil Larios (medical issue), Tom Vervoorn (medical issue), Jackie Musselman (recovery from knee surgery), James Johnson (cancer), Kaylinn Hignell (cancer), Nola Taylor (hospice care) and Barbara Trimmer (medical issues). Please pray also for an end to the bloodshed in Ukraine and for God’s mercy in the upcoming mid-term elections. Thank you!

In Pentecostal joy –
