Dear friends of Holy Trinity Chico –

God’s grace and peace be yours in the Name of Jesus. May you find refreshment in him each day during this eleventh week of the Trinity season!

Last Sunday, we continued our study of Paul’s letter to the Romans by examining verses 8-17 of chapter one. Here Paul lays out his summary statement for the letter’s theological argument: the Gospel as the revelation of the righteousness of God in bringing salvation to humanity and all of creation. In a very real sense, the following fifteen chapters are an elaboration of this theme. If you missed the service, you can view the recording here.

This Sunday, we will focus on verses 18-32 of chapter one, where Paul describes the horrendous distortions that take place in our humanity when we refuse to acknowledge God. Yet despite the appalling picture Paul paints, behind it stands the unwavering promise of God to restore his good and beloved creation to its original glory. Even the darkest human depravity is redeemable. Read over the passage and come with your observations and questions. For those unable to attend in person, be sure to tune in to our livestream at 9am Sunday morning or watch the recording during the following week. The link is https://youtu.be/sR2nRV_24VM

Looking for a small group bible study? Join us on Tuesday nights from 7-8 pm for sharing, prayer and a study of the Letter of James. We meet in the sanctuary at the church and would love to have you join in. You can also attend via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81655475348

Please join us this Saturday, August 27, from 8am-12pm, if you are able for a ½ day of sprucing up the church and grounds! We’ll be building shelves, removing old flooring, and doing lots of organizing and cleaning.

If God has been prompting you to pray more for his Church and for our nation, state and city, we’d love for you to join us on Fridays at the church building from 12-1pm. We are asking the Lord to bring repentance and new life, expose evil, frustrate the plans of bad actors and restore righteousness, integrity and love in our land. Come join us!

Thanks so much for your continued prayers for those in our body who face health issues, losses, financial difficulties and other challenges. Please be in prayer particularly for Ron Reid (recurring infection), Tom and Connie Vervoorn (major house fire), Danielle Penne (constant pain and upcoming surgery), Lynne Waite (back pain), Emmett and Pat Jarvis (Louis’ dad [stage 4 cancer] and mom [dementia]), Phil Larios (medical issue), Jackie Musselman (recovery from knee surgery), James Johnson (cancer), Kaylinn Hignell (cancer), Nola Taylor (hospice care), Bob (salvation) and Barb Brown (colitis) and Barbara Trimmer (medical issues). Please continue to for an end to the bloodshed in Ukraine and for God’s mercy in the upcoming mid-term elections. And pray for God to protect the lives of the unborn children in the face of the massive abortion industry. Thank you!

In Trinitarian joy –

Tom
